OUR STORY

In 2009 Jamie Snider and family relocated to Gilbert, Arizona. With the move, Jamie had to give up one of her favorite guilty pleasures… Eyelash Extensions!   She had been getting them for over a year, and found herself without her latest obsession.  She looked for someone who could even offer the service in her area, and got nowhere.  Knowing how addicting and beautiful a great set of Lashes were, she set out to get trained and certified, with the intention to train her niece so they could do each others Eyelash Extensions.

Jamie soon made more friends who kept asking about her beautiful eyelashes… They too wanted beautiful Lashes, and what started as a hobby, turned into a monster- and fast!  Family time, which is still Jamie’s most cherished activity, was dwindling as the line at their front door for quality eyelash extension products and actual applications grew longer seemingly by the day.  Jamie’s husband decided that enough was enough!  He knew a friend who designed websites, and he had him set up lashesdirect.com so that the now constant knocks on the door for eyelash extension supplies would become seldom again.  Jamie could dedicate some time each day when she chose to box orders and mail them instead of her home being a makeshift retail store.

Once the website was operational, the variety of lash sizes and curls in her inventory became overwhelming.  “We almost shut down the site because it had been almost 2 years, and we still were not making any money!”  Jamie said, “Everything that came in was going right back out in new orders and shipping costs.”  And worst of all, they were not gaining any new customers.  It seemed as though they had reached their limit.  Jamie wanted her family and life back!

At that point, they had a choice to make.  The only way to not lose money was to invest more in advertising.  “At this point, we had so many obscure lash sizes and application tools, that there was no way we would or could ever liquidate them unless we had a buyer- which did not exist.  If we were going to make anything, we were going to have to get bigger or call it quits and cut our losses.”   The headache of this unprofitable business was about to take a turn.  With the help of her husband who had a marketing degree and a few friends, they bootstrapped it and made a final attempt to market their online business nationally.

“I think we got in at the last possible minute!” said Jamie, “There weren’t nearly as many other sites as there are now, and if we had even waited 6 more months, I wonder if we would have been drowned out by the competition.”  Their efforts paid off, and slowly Jamie and her team has pulled off a business win!  “My goal was to offer FRESH and PROVEN products at a fair price.  This meant ordering more frequently, which increases costs- but still try to be cheaper than our competition.  Not as easy as it might sound!”
